Happy Spring Folks!
Well, the newsletters seem to have gone into hibernation for a couple months but that doesn't mean we haven't been going strong
with shows & various projects up here in the woods. On the contrary, February and March were extremely busy months for the trio and there's lots to tell. We've been gigging a little less than usual during the colder months but there is a good reason for that (more below) and it will all change very soon as summer approaches. Here's the latest.

Nominated: 2007 Portland Phoenix
Best Music Poll Awards!
 |
|
Ok, we'll get
the shameless stuff out of the
way first. We just got a nod from the
Phoenix and were nominated under
the "Singer/Songwriter" this year
for the annual Best Music Poll
Awards. This is
a great series of
friendly awards that provide
local musicians with an excuse
to get together here in Portland
and party down.
Voting is fairly quick and easy! There are a couple of categories per page. The voting process seems to go most smoothly if you fill out each category and then click the "Save and next category" button at the bottom. The Singer/ Songwriter category is on page 2.

Winter In Review

Our winter got off to a
very cool start with a
trip to the amazing and
thoroughly modern
studios of Sirius Radio
in midtown Manhattan.
The boys and I were in
town for a show at Mo
Pitkins and we happened
to get the invite from a
"big time producer" that
we were lucky enough to
become pals with a few
years back. Before we
knew it, we were walking
around the halls of the
studio getting the grand
tour. Howard Stern's
suite to the right,
Eminem's studio to the
left and rooms full of
twinkling gear and
humming computer
equipment on all sides.
We felt like three
backwoods hillbillies
that had walked onto a
spaceship... I just kept
thinking to myself
"don't touch ANYthing"
while praying that the
band heard me somehow.
Within an hour or so, we
were set up in front of
some of the nicer mics &
audio equipment that
we'd ever seen...
performing live across
the country and across
the solar system. We
played a few new
originals and chatted it
up with the DJ. Lots of
fun.

|
In gig news, we had several very
fun openers and co-bills along
the way. Our mini-tour in the
northeast with Jimmy LaFave was
a blast. We can't say enough
about what a great guy & stellar
musician/songwriter Jimmy is.
Lots of fun backstage stories
and antics. He brought along two
of Austin's finest guitar
wizards as sidemen which meant
that every night was like a
guitar clinic for me. Very
inspiring and somewhat
depressing... I think I need to
hit the woodshed for a decade or
so. |

A few weeks later, we
met up with our good
Canadian pals, The Dust
Poets, for a great show
at the Middle Earth in
VT. If you've ever
wanted to see a show in
a hobbit hole, this is
the place for you. The
entire venues is
fashioned in Tolkien-themed
decore. Lots of Orcs &
Elves watching from the
wings. We shared the
night with the Dust
Poets and then had a big
feast with the nice
folks running the show.
Definitely a unique stop
along the way. |

|
|
Our next stop landed us
in Memphis, TN for the
2007 Folk Alliance
conference. Lots of late
nights, BBQ and Red Bull
intake. We did manage to
get outside for some 70
degree weather the first
day which was
phenomenal. We also got
to see & party with tons
of musician pals which
is always the best part.
We caught great sets by
Hammel On Trial, Jimmy
La Fave, Antje Duvekot,
Amy Speace, Charlotte
Kendrick, Rose Cousins
and Anais Mitchell.
Definitely check these
folks out! |

In more recent news, we
had the pleasure of
opening a show for
Gandalf Murphy and the
Slambovian Circus of
Dreams in Framingham MA
a week or so ago. We
first heard this stellar
band at Falcon Ridge
Last year and finally
had the chance to do a
show with them. They've
been called
"Hillbilly-Floyd",
"folk-pop", "alt-country
roots-rock", and
"surreal Americana".
Whatever it is, it good!
You need to check them
out! |

Midwest dates opening
for Stephen Kellogg and
the Sixers!!!
The boys and I are
completely psyched to
pack up the van next
week to head west to
open a few shows for
Stephen Kellogg. In
addition to being a
great performer, Stephen
has got to be one of the
hardest working
songwriters on the scene
today. The dude plays
and plays a lot.
Definitely a guy that
knows what it takes to
build a fan base the
old-fashioned way.
In the words of the
Grammy-winning Roseanne
Cash, "Stephen is a
classic songwriter with
a thoroughly modern
approach; literate,
melodic, passionate and
fresh. An artist with a
unique voice and
enormous potential."
We'll be joining Stephen
at the House of Blues in
Cleveland OH, Club Cafe
in Pittsburgh PA and the
High Noon Saloon in
Madison, WI. If you
happen to be within
striking distance of any
of those cities, come on
down!

New CD in the works
Well folks, at long
last, here's the primary
source of all of the
recent silence from the
trio. The truth is,
we've quietly been in
the lab for a couple
months tracking 11 new
tunes for our sophomore
effort. I'll definitely
be sending along more
detailed updates as they
become available but I
wanted to get a small
mention out in the open
this month.
I'm still in the throws
of mixing so the sound
of the record is still
simmering as we speak,
but I will say that the
band has put in a ton of
work on this project and
I think it's going to be
a very interesting final
product.
I am definitely looking
forward to releasing it.
If all goes well, we're
looking at a June
timeframe. CD release
party dates will be
posted as they are
booked.
I'll have more to tell
you next month!
